Budapest's three gallery quarters, and how to walk them in an afternoon

discoverbudapest.art szerkesztőség · 13/10/2026

More than a hundred contemporary art spaces work in Budapest, but you don't need a map of all of them to start. Three neighbourhoods carry most of the scene, and each fits into an afternoon on foot.

Falk Miksa utca and Lipótváros (District V)

The classic gallery street runs behind Parliament. Dealer galleries line Falk Miksa utca itself; the route continues into the side streets of the inner city, to Szikra, Vintage – the reference address for photography – and K Galéria. About 33 minutes of walking. The walk →

Andrássy Avenue and Terézváros (District VI)

Several of the city's internationally active galleries are here: Deák Erika on Mozsár utca since 1998, INDA upstairs on Király utca, and acb, a key representative of the Hungarian neo-avant-garde. The Capa Center for photography sits in between. About 17 minutes of walking. The walk →

Bartók Béla út (District XI, Buda)

One straight avenue on the Buda side, with six galleries and cafés in between, ending at the Gross Arnold gallery-café. About 8 minutes of walking – the easiest start. The walk →

Before you go
