About

Budapest is full of art. We show you where.

This site was born of a simple frustration: more than a hundred contemporary galleries, project spaces and studios work in Budapest — and most of them are invisible even to locals. They have no shop window in the city, no shared calendar, no single place where a curious person could begin.

So we started building one. We walked the lists, added the galleries one by one, describe them in two languages, put every one of them on a map — and connect them to what lives inside: the artists, the exhibitions, the artworks. This is not an advertising platform or a marketing catalogue: it is an archive, with editorial standards. Everything published here was reviewed and written by a person.

And because a scene stays alive by being walked: this site is not only readable but walkable. Keep a gallery journal, build your own collection, follow our curated walks — and if you photograph an artwork that moves you, submit it to the archive so it lasts for someone else too.

What we are building

The archive. A searchable, bilingual database of the Budapest contemporary scene — galleries, artists, exhibitions, artworks, all interlinked.

The bookazine. The best of the archive in print, in English — a premium companion for visitors to the city.

ARTELIX. discoverbudapest.art is the first city view of Artelix — Contemporary Archive of Central & Eastern Europe: the same care extended to the whole region, from Budapest through Prague to Warsaw. The archive already holds records of more than 11,000 contemporary artists.
