Most Budapest galleries close at weekends. Here's where to go instead

Budapest's contemporary galleries keep office hours. When we checked the websites of 32 galleries in August 2026, 16 published regular opening hours – and nine of those, all commercial galleries, had no weekend opening at all. MissionArt opens Monday to Friday; Art9, Einspach & Czapolai, INDA, Kisterem, Molnár Ani and Vintage open Tuesday to Friday afternoons; Deák Erika three days a week, Wednesday to Friday.
That is the city's unspoken rule, and it catches visitors out: most people arrive for a weekend, exactly when the galleries are shut.
Who is open
The weekend belongs to the institutions. Kiscelli Museum – Municipal Gallery and Trafó Gallery open Tuesday to Sunday, Budapest Gallery every day except Monday. Among the galleries, K Galéria opens on Saturday afternoons, and Szikra on the first Saturday of the month.
So a weekend plan looks like this: a museum in the morning, one of the few open galleries in the afternoon, and the gallery quarters on a weekday if you are still in town.
How we keep this list
We publish opening hours only once a gallery has confirmed them – hours change, summer breaks are common, and a closed door is worse than no information. The live, weekly updated list is on our weekend page. If you run a gallery, tell us your hours: hello@artavizo.com.
